Second Regional Forum-Dialogue

The key objective of the Forum-Dialogue is discussion of urgent problems of safe use of nuclear energy in the territory of Murmansk region and North-Western region of Russia by representatives of public and scientific organizations, regional authorities and mass media.
On the first day of the Forum-Dialogue, Nov 17, during the enlarged meeting of the Public Council of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, the advisor of the director general of Rosatom V.Grachev will make a report on the regional aspects of Rosatom’s ecological policy. Y.Kudryavtsev, the head of the Department for Treatment of Spent Nuclear Fuel and Radioactive Waste, will report on the development of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste treatment systems.
O.Muratov, Secretary of the North-West Department of the Russian Nuclear Society, will deliver a report on nuclear and radiological safety in North-Western region. A.Nazarov, the vice chairman of the Public Council of Rosatom, will close the meeting with a report on strategy of Rosatom’s cooperation with non-profit organizations and local communities.
The other plenary sessions of the day will discuss the ways to ensure stable energy supply of North-Western region of Russia, to safely decommission nuclear and radioactive facilities and to resolve the problems of the “heritage.” Representatives of departments of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, nuclear companies, Global Partnership and international organizations acting in the Arctic region and northern sea will make reports on the above issues.
The program of the Forum-Dialogue includes roundtable “Kola NPP: Dialogue is Possible and Necessary,” organized by the Public Council of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and Bellona-Murmansk. The participants in the roundtable will discuss the nuclear and radiation safety situation at Kola NPP, its impacts on the health of its personnel and the population of Polyarnye Zori, the ways to extend the plant’s service life, models of safe decommissioning of nuclear reactors.
The final event on the agenda will be joint meeting of the Public Council of Rosatom and the Public Council for Safe Use of Nuclear Energy in Murmansk region, to be held onboard Lenin nuclear icebreaker.
The 2nd Regional Forum-Dialogue has been organized by the Public Council of Rosatom with the support of the Russian Green Cross and Atomflot. The 1st Regional Forum-Dialogue took place in Irkutsk in Dec 2008.
The venue is Murmansk, the conference hall of Meridian Hotel.
